Behind The Question

IMG_4030.HEIC

My name is Kia Ehrke and I am a graduating Senior at the University of Michigan. I am majoring in History and dual-minoring in Religion and Writing.

I became interested in what people thought about dating apps here at Umich a few years ago when I wrote an article for the UM HerCampus (an online magazine written for women, by women) chapter. My article was called "Doom Scrolling: Love Edition". In it, I likened using dating apps to "doomscrolling", a term that popularly describes endless, negative, scrolling on social media platforms. I received very positive feedback from girls who read my column, and I decided that there was more I could explore.

This project was formed in its early stages in my Writing 220 Gateway (to the Writing minor) class with Professor Julie Babcock. It was brought to its current form (in this website) in my Writing 420 Capstone class with Professor April Conway. My deepest thanks and gratitude to both of them for helping bring this to life.

Special thanks for this project goes to Tatum Jolink, a postdoctoral researcher working on the Revel (dating app) team here at Umich. Tatum was my consultant for this project as she is an expert in conducting research about dating apps here on campus.
